We grew up visiting "Grandma & Grandpa" in Wise County and developed a deep love for the area, the outdoors, and all it had to offer. There came a point, , when we realized that the amount of outdoor activities and authentic cultural experiences could indeed support visitors. No Wi-Fi or electricity, but a mini solar panel charges a light and can charge cell phones. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

If you're looking for privacy, you won't find a better place in Southeastern Virginia. It's over 100 acres on the Blackwater River with access to over 2 miles of waterfront without leaving the property. The river is much like a cypress swamp with large channels running through the middle and it creates a perfect environment for all kinds of spectacular wildlife. We have kayaks and canoes available for campers to use for free and a Jon boat with trolling motor available for rent. Fishing is permitted in our large pond and on the river. The farm currently features an apiary, vegetable garden, blueberry bushes, and animals including ducks, chickens, geese, and goats. This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants including hemp. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.) We also have a small, uncovered tree house which is available on a first come, first served basis. Only site 4 is next to the brook. Blackwater Birds and Bees

Come visit the farm and stay with us! We have primitive tent camping, RV sites, and a cozy little cabin. Blackwater Birds and Bees is a developing farm that started in 2016. If you're looking for privacy, you won't find a better place in Southeastern Virginia. It's over 100 acres on the Blackwater River with access to over 2 miles of waterfront without leaving the property. The river is much like a cypress swamp with large channels running through the middle and it creates a perfect environment for all kinds of spectacular wildlife. We have kayaks and canoes available for campers to use for free and a Jon boat with trolling motor available for rent. Fishing is permitted in our large pond and on the river. The farm currently features an apiary, vegetable garden, blueberry bushes, and animals including ducks, chickens, geese, and goats. The cabin features a full-size bed complete with linens/bedding as well as a sleeping loft for 2 additional guests. While the cabin does not have electricity or plumbing, it does have battery operated lights and an outhouse with flush toilet on site for the convenience of cabin guests. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do.

Spend relaxing time petting the Nigerian Dwarf goats, Rhode Island Red chickens, and the super-friendly livestock guard dogs (Thomasina, Bucky, and Sarge). We are also located adjacent to Agape Farms, with its horses, ducks, and chickens. All this in horse country just minutes from I-95 and an hour from Washington, DC or Richmond, VA.
