Family-friendly
Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is great for families and kids.
River Forest Haven is a unique space that seeks to bring you closer to nature. We do not artificially light the camp and we strive to leave as much of the property in its natural state as we can. This provides a unique experience that is not your typical campground as we keep all of our campsites tucked under lush natural canopies. Car and tent camping works great! For most sites, you can easily drive up to your spot. Arrive, take a look around and settle into your site. We are always happy to deliver any of our items from our general store- just message us on HipCamp and we will come by. With nearly half a mile of Colorado riverfront to swim, fish, toob, paddle-board, kayak, and canoe*, along with 30 acres to hike and explore, River Forest Haven is also a quick 20-minute drive from downtown Austin. THINGS OF NOTE: ⁃ cell phone service is mostly non-existent ⁃ firewood can be brought or bought, but not collected.

River Site 16
Spring Camping at River Haven
Campsites have plenty of space and plenty of shade. Fire pits provided. Firewood available for purchase and delivered to site. Plenty of ways to access the river with some sites having their own dock. Beach access is 20’ wide for putting in kayaks or tubes. We found separate boat ramp is difficult to use because it’s so narrow and steep with a drop off (perhaps due to level of river). We couldn’t put the trailer in the water and had to hoist the boat up. Recommend just using the beach access instead. Campsites and port-a potty are clean, sanitizer provided. Sturdy picnic tables provided at river sites (not at forest sites). We didn’t use showers but saw 3 of them near the water spigot (by the RV area). Roads are narrow and twisty. All in all though we had a good time and enjoyed our stay.

Not private but good views
“Private,” “Seclusion,” and “Intimate” were words used in the descriptions of several camp sites that are only a few feet from the road, and are not at all secluded from the other camp sites. From any one camp site you can see the next 4 sites, which isn’t so great when you’re trying to enjoy a camp fire and the people in the site across from you have their car lights on(why?idk) for the first three hours of the dark. I had a question for the host before booking, they gave me the answer I was looking for(thank you) but when I showed up to the site and had another simple question, radio silence, never heard back from them again. For families and first time campers, not a bad place at all. The river was nice and the river bank, advertised as sandy, was slick mud, but enjoyable to swim in nonetheless. Overall not a terrible experience, but not quite as advertised.

River Site 9
Love it
100% recommend!!! Perfect get away super close to Austin. Reserved site 8+ and 9 for a group of 16 people. It was better than we could’ve hoped for!!! Enough room for lots of tents up on a hill. Plenty of room to play tons of games (we did a beer Olympics). Right on the water with lots of shade and a private dock. Staff super helpful and responsive. Hot water showers were a huge bonus. We went in April and the weather was perfect. Mid 80s during day and low 50s at night.
